Homefront The Revolution by IvanLaliashvili Homefront The Revolution by IvanLaliashvili
My entry to the "Homefront The Revolution" Contest
Somehow
I tried to show evacuation point near Independence Hall

Indeed a very interesting topic for art contest and videogame- revolution, riot, the struggle for our rights and for our country against the invaders.
Got a
lot of fun working on this work. Unfortunately, not everything turned out as I planned originally, but this is the final. In any case, today is the last day)))
Thanks Deviantart and DeepSiver company for such a wonderful art event!
Thanks my dear friend and very good artist Matt for his support and amazing feedback during my work...

A small additional note
because I  get a lot of questions about the technique. Absolutely all of the work is drawn from the scratch(digital painting).
If a lot of people would be interested, I will submit the work process step by step, but only in the future. I used a little bit of photo references for the background- some photos of wires, ground textures and dirt, and Independence Hall. All the rest was paint by hands, i didn't use any photo-manipulation. But of course i used a lot of photos for references and inspirations.
please check out this great guys and links-

Why do people keep doing this...  and it's not even painting from reference, which I'd understand. But it's 1 to 1 copy&paste okay, it seems to be a very close copy by hand from a photo

I don't get it - why did you paste his photo in the painting? I would think you'd have no trouble painting a face ;)

Open the full 7000x3728 resolution; he did paint the face completely.  The picture and painting are very similar, but the lighting/features are different and there are brush marks in the painting.  Plus, all of his previous works speak to his capacity to paint with incredible detail.

Now, if you are opposed to using reference or a real person's likeness, then you have different sensibilities from Ivan.  He did nothing illegal.  Indeed, amazing artists have referenced the likenesses of real people for centuries.

Okay, probably it's heavily overpainted and the light is changed, or even painted side-by-side in a new window, like you claim. But still the artist says "I used a little bit of photo references for the background - some photos of wires, ground textures and dirt, and Independence Hall", like no-one gonna notice the elephant in the room. Why the secrecy?
And FYI reference ≠ manual copy (which is not a bad thing itself, when you point out it's a copy and link to the source image). Those amazing artists you mention, most probably painted real people from life in which case, they were the original authors of the work, but when you copy a photo, it already has an author. But today, in the age of google images - no one just gives a shit...

You have no idea what you are talking about, almost all the great artists used reference for their work, be it that they used a live model, camera obscura or even photos for that. Nowadays is much easier with photos.Ypu think that great renaissance artists wouldn't have used photos if they could instead of paying a model to sit in the same position for weeks, months even?Artists like the genius Vemeer used camera obscura to trace on the canvas and later after photography was invented in the 19 th century many artists like, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Degas, Gauguin, Toulouse Lautrec used photos. You should really check your information before making statements like these or even learn a little bit about the classic artists before formulating such nonsense.

But hey, I'm willing to help you, hoping that you will get over those preconceptions about art so here is some proof:

I agree. Not only did artists use photography as soon as it was available. But they also used printed references by others as well, so they were Not  "the original authors of the work". Take for instance Cesare Ripas "Iconologia", wich had a great impact on the art of the 16th and 17th century.

This looks really great. dude with the sniper rifle is fantastic, with a distinct look, and I love the hand in the foreground. I don't know what is happening, but I can tell something important is going on. Love the touch of colour in the scope.
